John Taka, a Queen’s Young Leader Award winner, met The Duke of York at a Garden Party in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
John, who runs a project called Seeds of Hope, showed The Duke his Award which was presented to him by The Queen during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 22nd June.
His Royal Highness had previously met John at the presentation in London and speaking from Papua New Guinea he said that “the Commonwealth can go from strength to strength because of personal leadership”.
John set up Seeds of Hope to help his rural community tackle some of the challenges it faced. So far the programme has enabled villagers to build new roads and start a potato-selling project to help pay for students’ school fees. He is also president of Spark*PNG, which supports founders of social start-ups.
During his visit to Papua New Guinea the Duke of York also opened the XV Pacific Games.
